>> overnight drama involving the duchess of cambridge as the expectant mother spends a third day in a london hospital . radio deejays managed to talk to her personal nurse after posing as the keep and prince charles to get through on the phone. nbc's michelle kosinski is at the hospital with the latest this morning. michelle, good morning to you.
>> reporter: hi, savannah, right. this story would be almost unbelievable if there wasn't an audio clip to prove it. last night these two fairly obscure australian radio deejays called here potion as both the queen herself and prince charles . they managed to be transferred to kate 's private nurse. here is what that sounded like.
>> oh, hello, there. could i please speak to kate , please, my granddaughter.
>> just hold on, ma'am.
>> when would be all right to come down and see her?
>> i would suggest any time after 9:00.
>> reporter: it doesn't seem at all like that would be possible, but that clip is real. the hospital has called this deplorable. the good news is that kate is feeling better, and there's great news for her baby to be as well. prince william spending each day at kate 's side left a private hospital without having to say anything publicly. his smile did it. enough to reassure many here with the world's media camped outside.
>> people love them. they are becoming more popular by the day.
>> reporter: and then a rather unexpected message from the palace. the duchess of cambridge is continuing to feel better. she and the duke are immensely grateful for the good wish eds she has received. she will remain in hospital at present and will continue to be treated for hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that can leave you debilitated and leave you unable to eat or drink. just last friday kate seemed great, reliving sporting days at her old school. how quickly her morning sickness struck. by monday she was in the hospital for what will likely be several days and with treatment, intravenous fluids and medication appears to be working. and the students she visited with are now writing her get well cards. at the same time comes great news for her baby to be, especially if it is a girl. the british government revealed that monday, coincident lit same day kate 's pregnancy was announced, lawmakers got final word from all the british commonwealth nations, that the historic change to the rules of succession will go through into law and quickly. now if william and kate have a girl, she will retain her right as next in line in throne even if baby boys follow.
>> old-fashioned rules where only a boy could become a king and his oldest sister was not allowed to, those will be swept aside, and i think that's change, if you like, an updating of the rules that many people would welcome.
>> reporter: except maybe prince harry who learned of the pregnancy by e-mail in afghanistan where he's still serving a tour of duty . his position in the royal succession will now be displaced by a baby. lots of speculation, of course, right now as to what this child will be named, and as many times as we've heard tourists say hoe then it will be brian or courtney after themselves, it is most certain to be one of the old favorites like elizabeth or george, but right now here in london, the longest odds at 1,000-1 is that this child will be named wayne orchard na. savannah?
>> michelle kosinski , thanks so much
