Charlize Theron Is the New Lady Vengeance

While Korean director Chan-wook Park is making his Hollywood debut with the horror movie Stoker, two of his Korean-language ones are being remade for the Western audience.

Spike Lee is currently shooting the remake of Park's Oldboy, which stars Josh Brolin as a man who wants payback against the person holding him hostage in a room for 15 years. The movie is scheduled to come out next year on October 11th.

Another in the pipeline is Park's Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, better known as Lady Vengeance in the States. It's another revenge thriller centered on a woman who was incarcerated for a murder she did not commit. She knew who did it though, and once she had served her sentence, the real murderer will get what's coming.

And who will play this vengeful lady? Why Ashley Judd, of course, except she's kind of retired from these types of movies. No worries though. It appears Charlize Theron will be more than happy to take up Judd's mantle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron will star and produce the remake, with Annapurna Pictures footing the bill. William Monahan is on board to write the screenplay.
